
Diane Hicks-Hughes, Aquatics Director for Lansing Central School District in New York, has been appointed as the new chairperson of the NFHS Swimming and Diving Rules Committee for 2011-2014 by the NFHS Board of Directors. Hicks-Hughes previously served on the committee as the Section I representative from 2004-2007.
Diane began her tenure as Aquatics Director in 1980 where she coordinated a program whereby all students (K-12) participate in swimming as part of their Physical Education Program. She has coached the Girls’ Varsity Swimming and Diving at the school for 29 years. In 1999, she became the New York State Public High School Association (NYSPHSAA) Girls’ Swimming and Diving Coordinator where she runs the Girls’ Swimming and Diving State Championship meet. Diane has been a NFHS Swimming and Diving Official for 35 years and is also a NCAA official. In 2006 Diane was honored and recognized by the American Red Cross for her work in the field of Aquatics by receiving the chapter’s Clara Barton Award.
Hicks-Hughes brings a strong swimming and diving background to the committee. Her experience as a coach, official and administrator of the sport will serve the committee and her well. Diane is only the second female to chair this committee since its 1973 inception.
