About the Record Book

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) is proud to present the National High School Sports Record Book. As the organization responsible for protecting and promoting high school athletic programs in the United States, the NFHS and its member state associations acknowledge an obligation to make these records available.
The National High School Sports Record Book brings proper recognition to high school boys and girls, coaches and teams who have achieved outstanding performances in interscholastic athletic competition. The NFHS believes such recognition helps stimulate interest in high school athletic programs and motivates other competitors to improve their skills.
More than victories or state championships, learning to be a sport is the single-most important value gained from participating in interscholastic athletics. The NFHS has made sportsmanship its No. 1 priority because it believes the future of interscholastic athletics rests with an understanding and commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity.
The NFHS guidance of the national interscholastic records program will ensure that only deserving teams and individuals will lay claim to national records.
The National High School Records Committee oversees the interscholastic records program. The committee, which meets annually, forms policy which it believes is necessary to make the records program reliable and the records authentic. Occasionally, new policies have required deletion of performances which appeared in previous editions. The NFHS invites information which may lead to additional records listings or corrections of existing listings.

Sportsmanship Statement

“The National High School Records Committee is pleased to recognize outstanding achievements by teams and individuals. Although it is impossible to determine intent when marks are established, the committee encourages recognition of performances in the true spirit of interscholastic competition.  Running up scores or embarrassing an opponent for the primary purpose of inclusion in the Record Book is not consistent with the ideals of good sportsmanship.”
