On November 30, Knoxville (Tennessee) Christian Academy senior receiver Davis Howell set the national record for 11-player football career receptions in his team’s Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Class 3A final against Milan High School.
The 6-foot-2 Howell caught 15 passes in the game to conclude his career with 358 receptions. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations’ online multimedia National High School Sports Record Book, the former record of 349 career receptions was set by Ben Wonderly of Sherwood (Ohio) Fairview High School from 2005 to 2008.
Exhibiting great resolve, Howell had played the previous five games with a broken thumb.
