On April 8, 2013, junior softball pitcher Ally Frei of Sussex (New Jersey) High Point High School threw a perfect game in High Point’s 5-0 victory over Vernon (New Jersey) High School.

Frei, who has thrown four perfect games in her high school career, struck out all 21 batters she faced in the seven-inning game.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations’ online multimedia National High School Sports Record Book, Frei’s 21 strikeouts ranks 10th all time. The national record for seven-inning games is 24 strikeouts, set by Kelly Holmes of Plymouth (Michigan) Canton High School in 1992.

As a sophomore in 2012, the 5-foot-10 Frei went 26-0 with a 0.43 earned-run average, had 362 strikeouts in 179 innings, and helped lead High Point High School to its first-ever New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Group III state title. In recognition of her efforts, Frei was named both The Star-Ledger’s West Jersey softball Player of the Year and the New Jersey Herald’s softball Player of the Year for 2012. Frei is verbally committed to Penn State University.
