California’s Rachel Baxter sets national pole vault record

On May 26, Canyon (California) Anaheim Hills senior pole vaulter Rachel Baxter cleared 14 feet and four inches at the CIF Southern Section Masters, securing a first-place finish. She would later finish first again at the CIF State Championships on June 3 after clearing 14 feet, but failing to clear 14-5 in three attempts.

According to the National High School Sports Record Book, Baxter set a new national record by jumping over 14-2 ¾ which was the previous record. That record was set by New Iberia (Louisiana) Catholic’s Morgan LeLeux in 2011.
