Rule Interpretations for New Gymnastics Rules

SITUATION 6: A gymnast places a hand placement mat (round-off pad) on the runway near the board just before she is given the signal by the superior judge to begin her vault. The judge does not stop the gymnast. RULING: Correct procedure. COMMENT: The hand placement mat is the only mat that may be placed on the runway. A sting mat may not be used as a hand placement mat.

(Rule 6-1-3d)

SITUATION 5: While measuring and inspecting equipment, the superior judge notices that the vaulting table pistons/pedestal are not padded. The superior judge notifies the host school that competition can not begin until the table is properly padded. RULING: Correct procedure. COMMENT: Padding the vaulting table pistons/pedestal is required for risk minimization. (Rule 2-2-1a-2 &6-2-5b new 10)
